Do it Yourself or Hire a Pro?

Most libraries and local bookstores offer a vast amount of resume guide and

career books. Booksellers like Barnes and Noble and Borders has a whole

shelf filled with them. The problem with most of these publications is that

they often contradict one another, and many times they are already out of

date by the time they come into print. With new trends always emerging,

it's hard to keep up! If you find a book published in 1999 or 2000, chances

are it's already out of date.

Books and templates are an excellent source of ideas, suggestions, and

information, whether you're looking for formatting ideas, are stuck on

sentence structure, or need inspiration on what to include. But unless

you're an accomplished Resume Writer, it's hard to figure out which one is

better than the other. JIST Publications specializes in the career industry

and publishes several new books each year. Their latest strategy is to

include submissions from more than 100 resume writers focusing on

specialized careers. What that means is a Sales and Marketing Professional

can get a book that zeroes in on their career, and they won't have to wade

through resumes for Funeral Directors, Manufacturing, or other careers that

don't pertain to them.

Think about the cost-effectiveness of hiring a Professional Resume Writer.

If you think spending a few hundred dollars on a professional resume is

expensive, consider how much it costs to be unemployed for an extended

period of time. The most common mistake that job seekers make is they try to

do it themselves to save a few bucks, and then start calling Professional

Resume Writers when the money runs out because they still haven't found a

job. Most people know it's in their best interest to pay a tax preparer to

help them save money at tax time, but have a hard time justifying the

expense when it comes to their career. Since its the career that brings in

the income, doesn't it make sense to make it high priority?

If you are seeking a professional to help you in your career search, check

their credentials, experience, and by all means ask for references from

satisfied clients. Take care of your career, and your career will take care

of you!
